上町銀座近辺の地域には、病院や薬局などの医療機関が多く、横須賀市文化会館、横須賀市青少年会館、横須賀市中央図書館、横須賀市自然人文博物館、といったものが多い文化地区です。
また、職人も多く『匠の街』であるため、専門店が非常に多くなっています。
その他に看板建築（看板建築とは、東京及び関東近県で関東大震災以降に建てられた装飾付きの商店建築のことで、実際に看板がくっついているわけではなく、のっぺりとした板状の外見にモルタルや銅板製の装飾が施されている様子がまるで看板のように見えることから付いた名前です）といった日本でも貴重な建築物があります。

歴史 / History
上町銀座商店会は1947年（昭和22年）に結成されました。
明治初期のころから自然発生的に発足した商店会で、100年以上の歴史をもった商店もあります。とても古くからある歴史のある街です。上町地域には5つの商店会（上町銀座商店会・上町三栄会・上町商盛会（振）・中里通り商店会・池之端商和会）があります。このため、お客様は三崎～金沢区・逗子・葉山まで幅広い客層をもっています。
海軍士官が多く住んでいた地区であり、昔は横須賀で牛肉が一番売れていた地域でした。
